Carey and Inglis fight back to give Australia advantage over South Africa

• Wicketkeepers rebuild innings to reach 330-4 at stumps
• Green shines but Labuschagne's duck signals a likely end

If the opening day in Cape Town was a wild ride, the second day offered a more measured journey, though it still featured peaks and valleys befitting the city's mountainous scenery. South Africa twice struck in quick succession to derail promising Australian progress, and twice the visitors rebuilt. Eventually, Josh Inglis and Alex Carey pushed Australia ahead, finishing at 330 for four in response to South Africa's 329 all out, poised to accelerate on day three with six wickets remaining.

While Travis Head was at the crease, Australia's first session threatened to mirror South Africa's performance on day one, when Aiden Markram and Marques Ackerman had added 140 runs against a bewildered bowling attack. Head attacked width with aggressive strokes, blending fortune with skill to collect seven boundaries. His new opening partner Matthew Renshaw displayed a contrasting approach, leaving and defending the new ball with the clarity he had shown in the middle order in Durban, highlighting why he was the original choice to replace Jake Weatherald at the top before selectors briefly and unsuccessfully turned to Nic Maddinson.开云在线登录
